MARGIELA IS DEAD

Since 2002 Diesel has owned the majority stock of the house Martin Margiela has built. However it has been obvious that Mr Margiela has not been involved for some time. Though financially the company has soared since 2002, creatively it has been lackluster. The question is whether a dedicated team — at Margiela, 28 creative personnel — could operate without a name designer whose annual compensation to produce six to eight collections would be conservatively estimated at €5 million.
The answer is NO. It just takes the last collection to feel terribly disappointed in the direction they are headed. Convinced it is designed by the diesel team it will be interesting to see if the brand survives based on marketing and over-exposure.
